War Horse...

A couple of weeks ago I managed to talk Frank and Kelley into going to see War Horse (of course I had to pay for them). Originally I had planned to make Kelley and Graham see it on Christmas but both of them thought it looked stupid, as did Frank. Anyway it is one of the best movies I have seen in a while!! Here is the trailer...



I almost started tearing up just re-watching the trailer. This movie is long so go into it knowing that, but it is seriously wonderful. There are slow parts but it's such a well made movie that I wasn't bothered by this. I must say that I cried (as in ugly crying, as in it's embarrassing to be in the movie theater because I'm gasping for breath and letting out loud sobs crying) most of the movie. SO if you are an animal lover like I am take plenty of tissues! It takes place in WW1 so I loved the history aspect as well!

Jeremy Irvine did an awesome job as Albert who trains the horse as a young boy only to have him taken away at the beginning of the war.

Although hard to watch, it was very interesting watching the war scenes. I can't believe how they used to fight. 

Prince William and Kate just went to the London premiere...

Kate looked so pretty! Apparently she cried during the movie as well... pretty sure I read that on people.com.

I definitely recommend going to see this movie- especially in the theaters! Kelley loved it as well, and Frank thought it was ok.  (probably because he is just being stubborn) Graham now wants to see it because Larry King was raving about it as well. If you don't trust me just read all the reviews!! IT IS AMAZING!! 

Thank You Living Social...

I would just like to give one big thank you to the people at Living Social. When I woke up today I went about my usual routine, checking all the emails on my phone, yes ALL of them. I'm SO popular. Anyway something caught my eye..."Dirty Dancing Festival Admission." At first I was like OMG I am still dreaming because a) I would have known about a Dirty Dancing Festival and b) this sounded too good to be true. Honestly this was the quickest I've gotten out of bed in a while, but duty called and I had to find my computer ASAP. Lo and behold (yes first thing that comes to most of your minds is Lo hearts behold our green and gold....) right before my eyes was the Dirty Dancing Festival website. So before I go on anymore tangents, please take a second to enjoy one of my personal favorite scenes of the movie.... (let's be honest the whole movie is my personal favorite scene).



I really can't blog enough about my excitement in this matter. It was just last weekend in Charleston when I was hanging with Andy and Jane Andrews (Clarke was there in spirit since he was also watching in Raleigh) crying and getting chills watching Baby and Johnny's love story. Our hearts broke for Baby as she had to confront her dad on the porch and tell him that he had disappointed her too. SOB...who wants to tell their dad that he's disappointed them?! Then junior year of college I insisted Kelley drive to Raleigh to attend the 20th Anniversary Screening of Dirty Dancing at North Hills. Never have I ever felt so bonded with a group of women....the theater was sold out. Together we sang, cried, laughed, repeated lines we knew by heart, you get the idea. That same year I gave Kelley The Dirty Dancing Game for Christmas, which she has yet to play with me.

I know when I finally play I WILL have the time of my life. 

Anyway to get to the point of this whole post, after talking to Rebecca Jane and Dorothy we have decided lets make this dream a reality. Bec has a place we can stay and living social tickets are $12 (a bargain!!!). If you check out the website you will notice all the fun activities such as...

1) Dance Lessons- unfortunately Patrick Swayze will not be there (RIP). These are included in the Dance Festival Saturday. You can learn classics like the mambo, cha cha and merengue. 

2) Lake Lift Competition (need I say more?) I perfected that in the pool as a young child so it will be a cinch.

3) Watermelon Games (I'm assuming this means a watermelon carrying contest)

I mean who hasn't had that awkward moment of saying the wrong thing to a boy?? I'm the queen of awkward moments.

4) Golf Tournament on Sunday (I know this is going to get the boys to want to go...)

I mean this movie is SO relatable...how many times have you had to ask your dad for money?? 

A couple more things to note about the festival...

1) There is a screening of the movie out by the lake on Friday night.

2) Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers will be giving a concert- UM he sings the song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." As in the original with Jennifer Warnes. Seriously he does I have both Dirty Dancing Soundtracks. 

3) The Embers along with some other bands and DJ's will be performing.

4) There is a "Time of Your Life Gala"- love an excuse to dress up.

5) There is a beer and wine garden...not even sure what this is but I like the sound of it.

6) Lastly there is a silent auction...I will not let the fact that I have NO money stand in the way of me and valuable Dirty Dancing memorabilia.

I know it's a big football weekend, but really it's the Dirty Dancing Festival so lets get real. 

The Lincoln Lawyer...

Last night I watched The Lincoln Lawyer. I had wanted to see it while it was in theaters but unfortunately never made it. I was a little skeptical because I had never seen Matthew McConaughey in such a serious role. However, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to guys and girls. I must admit that my anxiety level was high at points but there were lots of unexpected twists, and the story moved quickly.

Matthew McConaughey plays Mick Haller, a defense lawyer who works out of his Lincoln. When Louis Roulet, played by Ryan Phillipe, is accused of raping a prostitute he hires Haller to defend him. Since Roulet is a wealthy realtor he claims that the prostitute is setting him up in order to get money out of him. As things unfold Haller realizes that this may be linked to an old case of his. 

Marisa Tomei plays Maggie McPherson, Mick Haller's ex-wife and love interest. She looks beautiful in the movie and did a great job!

I really enjoyed this movie as well. It was full of unexpected twists which kept it fast-paced and interesting.

Super 8...

Last Sunday Frank and I went with Bec and Rob to go see Super 8. I wanted to see it because I figured since it was Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams it had to be good, but I didn't know much about the movie and I wasn't sure what to expect. Well after seeing it, I highly recommend it. Here's the trailer:



I'm not going to say too much because I don't want to give anything away. Basically it's about a group of kids in the late 70's who are making a movie for the Super 8 movie contest when they witness a train crash.  After the crash strange things start happening in their small town.

This movie reminded me of E.T. The actors are AWESOME. I was skeptical when I realized this movie was basically going to consist of child actors, but these actors all have so much talent. I was very impressed with Elle Fanning. I already love Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning has proved to have just as much talent.

Lets not forget that Coach Taylor, also known as Kyle Chandler, played Jackson Lamb in the movie. I love love love Friday Night Lights, I love Coach Taylor, therefore I love Super 8.

Anyway I highly recommend this movie. Guys and girls will both love it. There is lots of action and a little romance too! It's worth going to see in the movie theaters.

Ali MacGraw....

I'm not exactly sure what made her pop into my head today, but it might have had something to do with my black t-shirt I put on. Growing up Love Story was one of my favorite movies. I think Ali MacGraw is just one of the most beautiful women ever and I have always wanted to look like her. There is a scene in Love Story where she's wearing a black t-shirt and white shorts and although she is super casual, she looks so chic. Which is why I bought this black t-shirt in college (thinking I would look like her...HAHA). Anyway here are some pictures of her...she's got such an awesome style. It doesn't hurt that she was married to Steve McQueen for a little bit either... If you haven't seen Love Story I highly recommend you watch it ASAP...but have a box of tissues by your side!!!!

La Bamba...

(this post is not about the Mexican restaurant in Greensboro)

I recently watched the movie La Bamba, which tells the story of Ritchie Valens. Lou Diamond Phillips played Ritchie and did a great job. Ritchie Valens died at the age of 17 in a plane crash along with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. Ritchie Valens had a lot of hit songs in a short period which included Donna (written for his girlfriend), La Bamba, Come on, Let's Go, and We Belong Together. It was a pretty good movie, I only recommend it if you enjoy history and oldies music. Something interesting I did learn from the movie though...

Waylon Jennings and Buddy Holly.

Waylon Jennings was in Buddy Holly's band as a guitarist and the two were good friends. Waylon was supposed to be on the plane that crashed but gave his seat up to the Big Bopper because he was sick with the flu. Basically the whole reason they took the plane was because the heater on their bus had broken. A lot of them were getting sick, etc. and it was dead winter in the mid-west. Anyway, Waylon gave up his seat on the plane....So when Buddy found out he jokingly said "So you're not going with us on the plane, huh? Well I hope your ol' bus freezes up." Waylon responded to this by saying "I hope your plane crashes." Unfortunately both ended up happening that night. Apparently Waylon struggled for a long time over what he said, and blamed himself for the accident.
